Castello San Michele is a fully renovated palace built between the 11th and 16th century. It was the castle of the famous Condottiere Bagliona, then became property of Catherine of Medicis, of the Colonna and Farnese families and of the Prince of Montholon.
The castle has a stunning view over the valley (Calanche Teverine, around Civitella di Bagnoregio) as it is built on a promontory, surrounded by old walls and towers, around a quite square. It is located at the end of a charming village with grocery store and bakery.
The castle has 10 rooms and can welcome as many as 20 guests over 3 floors.
All the rooms are furnished with antique furniture and have painted ceilings.
The first floor includes 5 rooms, 2 bathrooms, 1 billiard room, 1 study, 1 large dining room, 1 living room and a very large kitchen.
The living rooms in the "piano nobile" (2nd floor) are a sign of the history of the castle and include the Throne room, 2 living rooms, 3 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms.
The terrace and veranda on the same floor are ideal for lunch in spring/summer/automn and to enjoy the sun all year long, taking advantage of the exceptional view.
2 other rooms and a small library are located on the top floor.
The garden includes a small pool.
The castle is located 20km South of Orvieto, 1h20 from Rome (very accessible by train or car), and at less than 1 hour from the sea resort of Tarquinia, with direct access to Viterbo's Termal center (Terme dei Papi) and to the lake of Bolsena. It is located in the center of the Valle dei Calanchi national park, which includes Civitella di Bagnoregio.
The Tuschia region around the castle is full of medieval villages, Roman and Estrucian ruins as well as hiking trails and spas.
