Luz de Mar is for those people looking for something more than just a beach house. A major refurbishment in 2019 has created the ideal property for one or two families to hide away in their own little paradise, with a stunning beach just a stone’s throw away. It is a generous property (sleeping for 10 although the living space is for more) where the owners and architect have thought of every detail, from the lower ground floor guest flat with its private courtyard to a writer’s dream office above the main suite, a first floor plunge pool with glass bottom, and even a crow’s nest roof terrace with panoramic views and sunken cold box just in case you forget something downstairs! All of this set in a beautifully designed and extremely well kept garden.

There are five floors in all! But don’t let this put you off because you will spend most of the time on the ground and first floors. The ground floor begins with a spacious hall with the fine original staircase winding up to the first floor. Glass panels on either side of the hall reveal the full breadth of the house, the sitting room to the left and the kitchen and indoor dining area to the right. The latter contains a dining table and also a central island, and the kitchen itself contains all the appliances you would expect from a house of this quality. There is a separate laundry room off to one side. The whole kitchen/dining area opens onto the main terrace with sliding glass doors along its full length. The sitting room runs down one of the other sides of the covered terrace and has a similar sliding glass door connecting the indoor and outdoor living spaces.

All the outdoor living space is decked in treated pine, providing a continuity that takes in the covered terrace, the whole of the pool area, access to the BBQ area and the parking area and also the terraced garden that leads down to the guest flat’s courtyard on the other side of the house. On the covered terrace itself, there is plenty of room for the dining table for 10 and the sofas. The area is ideally positioned to provide shade in the heat of the day and a soft dappled sunlight as the sun moves down behind the pines. The pool area (with optional fence) gets the sun pretty much all day, and the (salt-chlorinated) pool has a fun jacuzzi area in one corner. The chunky teak sunbeds with their deep mattresses may mean you venture down to the beach less than you planned!

The bedrooms at Luz de Mar are distributed over three floors. The ground floor is home to the guest bedroom with its double bed and en suite bathroom, and also to a small single room with en suite shower. The lower ground floor houses a guest flat, complete with bedroom, bathroom, and a good size living room, complete with sink, fridge, coffee machine and built-in microwave. Glass doors fold back along the complete breadth at one end to give access on to a private sunken courtyard.

The first floor contains a separate TV room and the remaining three bedrooms: the main suite, and two children’s rooms. All open onto the first floor terrace with its plunge pool and views of the sea. One of the children’s rooms is a single and the other has an optional pull-out second bed. Both rooms have their own ensuite shower rooms. The main suite is beautiful: the original house’s built in glass-fronted cupboards have been maintained, while the dressing room provides ample and more modern hanging space. And if you can’t decide in which pool to sit as the sun goes down, enjoy it from the bath in the main suite; it has been strategically placed to get the last rays through the pines!

The small staircase from the dressing room takes you up to an inspirational home office on the top floor; floor-to-ceiling bookshelves down two sides and glass along the other two, and even better sea views than from the first floor. Access the second floor terrace from the office and, just when you thought it couldn’t get better, a ship's staircase provides the agile with access to a crow’s nest rooftop terrace with 360 degree views. It’s an unbeatable spot for a sundowner, which you can chill in the ice box sunk into the terrace floor….. every last detail!
